6 Organic Brazilian Spinach Samba Cuttings shipped fast from Florida. You will receive 6 cuttings each approximately 4” long, from our lush Sissoo Spinach growing in sunny palm beach gardens, FL. Home grown naturally using regenerative methods with lots of love and zero chemicals or pesticides. You will receive unrooted cuttings just like those in the pictures. These cuttings are cut fresh to order. I strip the leaves and wrap the bottoms in wet paper towels to retain moisture and package them with great care for safe shipping. Sissoo Spinach is my absolute favorite of all the subtropical perennial spinaches as it is easy to grow and has a nice crunchy texture and mild flavor (& it doesn’t have a slimy or mucilaginous texture like some of the other perennial spinaches have). IMPORTANT: I cannot ship this item to AZ, CA, HI, & PR. If your shipping address is to any of these states your order will be cancelled. Thank you for your understanding. Growing Info & Tips Sissoo Spinach is super easy to grow from cuttings. It roots quite quickly, usually within a few weeks, and from there it will grow fast and large enough that you will have a bountiful harvest from these cuttings within the year! It grows as a perennial in Zones 8-11 with frost protection and can be grown as an annual or in greenhouses in Zones 4+. I particularly love growing it as an edible ground cover near the base of some of my fruit trees as part of my orchard floor. It grows well in sun, part shade and shade… the leaves will be lighter or darker depending on the amount of shade or sun it gets. From my growing experience here under the Florida sun, I find it does best here with some part shade. It likes moist soil (not saturated) and once established is rather drought tolerant. It tends to grow to a height of 6-8 inches and does not self-seed, so its spread is easily maintained to your liking by simply harvesting the greens to eat. Yummy! Care advice will be included with your shipment. Start the cuttings in pots with a nice with pre- moistened potting mix, burying the stem of each cutting about 1.5-2” into the soil. I like to start the cutting in pots outside under my trees for some partial shade. Keep the soil moist but not soggy! You should see new growth and roots within a few weeks time (2-4 weeks). Once established, you can move them into to ground or continue to grow them in containers. Taste and Preparation Sissoo Spinach leaves are dark green and somewhat curly in appearance. They have the perfect amount of crunchy texture and a mild flavor. It doesn’t have a slimy or mucilaginous texture like many of the other perennial spinaches have either. It’s really one of my favorites! I love to eat it raw mixed with other greens in my salads. It is also really great cooked in a number of dishes. As with most of the veggies in the spinach family, it is recommended that if you are eating large amounts of it that you cook it first, which helps reduce its high oxalate levels. Sissoo Spinach makes a great side dish steamed or lightly sautéed, made into a pesto, added to curries or soups, & scrambles etc. Yummy, yum, yums! Please Note: All of my cuttings are fresh and viable. Growing is fun! The majority of the time it is a success but sometimes it’s not. This just is the way it is with nature and gardening. I hope you experience success with all the cuttings, however I cannot be responsible for rooting failure due to improper care or climate conditions etc. One order is 6 healthy organic Brazilian spinach rooted cuttings Also known as sissoo. Sissoo spinach is easy to grow. It is a beautiful, edible, perennial from zone 8-11 ground cover. It grows all year long for us here in palm beach gardens Florida. This plant is a vigorous grower and in cooler climates can be grown inside year round for an in house spinach supply. I grow 5 types of greens at home. Longevity spinach, Katuk, Okinowa, sweet potato leaves and Brazilian spinach. My favorite for flavor and the beauty of the plant is the Brazilian spinach. I will include instructions on how to grow the plant and how to propagate the plant for a larger supply of delicious greens. For free composted material call your local recycle center. Here in Florida, our county shredded up all the trees, leaves and compostable material from hurricane Irma. the stuff is wonderful and does more for the plants than the horse manure i use. I find screening it first gives me a better product I like to do things organically and without spending a lot of money. I have a local barbecue place that is wonderful and they have natural wood charcoal that is formed into briquettes that they use. It is 100 natural and they give me the ashes for free. Ashes have the phosphorus and potassium and the horse manure has the nitrogen so those are the three main ingredients in your bagged fertilizer that you paid money for and i got it and you should get it for free too. The bagged fertilizer you use such as 10-10-10 is a by product from drilling for oil. I don't want that on my plants. PH they like is around 6 In populations were people live to over 100, one of the common factors is they put their wood stove ash into their garden. It is also full of trace minerals that are healthy for you. Also when someone that does tree work in your area has to dump their wood chips at the transfer station or dump, they have to pay a fee. If you have a large yard you could have them dump a load in your yard when they are working in the area. if you tell them you want it on a certain time frame then they will be making a special trip for you and charge you. If you tell them instead, when you are in the area and want to save a tipping fee then they can leave a load at your home. these wood chips work well to keep down weeds. I seem to see most gardeners end up growing too much of something. You could thank the wood chip guy or the ash people with what you grew too much of. If you buy Royal oak brand charcoal you can see it looks like pieces of chard wood and is more natural and is bio char! Don't pay big bucks for bio char, instead buy royal oak charcoal and crush it up. They wood chips will build your soil but in the short term their best use is to keep the weeds down. It can take a long time to break down. Free seeds for you. There are seed libraries through out the country that give out seeds for free. Most of them are in libraries. Call your local library and see if they have a seed library or what library does.. I thought about only giving this information to the people that buy from me but i would rather help more people so i am putting this here for everyone but i also hope you purchase some of my Any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me a message. All photos are taken from our garden. The easiest way to propagate this cutting is to directly put into water for a day..then put into moist soil. That's it!
